Getting a Page Rank

I'm working on the SEO for my parenting website. What I can't seem to do is to get google to crawl my site. I know it takes time, but does anyone know how much?

I try to work with google trends, but by the time google picks up my content, the trend is about as up to date as a mullet haircut.

Also, I'm going to hire lady java if she is still taking clients and overhaul my ugly, boring blog. I can't figure out how to write static pages on blogger, can't figure out the "continue reading" option, can't for the life of me figure out how to get good, high quality backlinks and finally, I can't figure out how to have a blogger hosted site with a domain that I purchase.

I have so much blogging knowledge to learn. I'm a writer, not a computer savvy programmer and it seems to have a successful blog or network of sites, one must be both.

I can answer a few of those questions, though not all of them.

As far as I know, Blogger doesn't have an option for static pages -- only WordPress does. But what you can do is write a post that contains the info you would want in a static page, and then put a link to that post in a very prominent place in your sidebar. So that would work *like* a static page, even though it really isn't.

Backlinks take time. You have to be VERY patient. Some people speed up the process by trading, or even buying, links, but I don't do that stuff. I just sit and wait ... and wait ... and wait ... for someone to discover how brilliant I am and link to one of my posts. Heh. ;) In all seriousness, I have gotten some links that way. The trick seems to be to write about something that few other people are writing about. And it really does take time ...

There are instructions, in the Blogger help files, on how to set up your own domain name on Blogger. http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55373

Getting your site crawled shouldn't take very long. Are you sure it's not being crawled already? (If you type in just your URL name in the search box, does anything come up?) I think if you get even one link from a site that is ranked, that should be enough to get you spidered. (Not sure about this, though.)

Oops, I just realized I misread your post. You said Google *is* picking up your content (so disregard my last paragraph). What you want to know is how to get Google to pick it up *faster*, right?

If you post often, the Google spiders will probably come by more often. (If they see you are usually posting, say, once a week, they won't come by every day because they are not expecting anything new.)

Also, I don't know if Blogger automatically sends out "pings" or not, but you could try doing it yourself at http://www.pingomatic.com

Blog Explosion also has a ping my blog function that works quite well to ping some of the directories

I had no idea that Blogger didn't have static pages. I am absolutely boggled by this. Just totally boggled.

it works quite well if you backdate your page to before you started your blog ... then it doesn't show up in the current articles; goes back to the beginning

This is when my newbie roots really show. I searched my blog in google and there it was! I thought that google didn't index any of your blog until they gave you a page rank. Found Ladyjava and she's working on my design because my blog design is just plain gross and amateur.

Can I just say that lady Java ROCKS?! She gave me a blog makeover and I'm lovin' it!

Ok, I'm an idiot. I thought that your blog content didn't show up in google searches at all until you had a google page rank. Despite being a google PR N/A my content shows up in tailored searches. Google is visiting, just hasn't graded me yet. Told you I was new!
